This IPE was installed by the original builder and left to naturally patina. Although some clients prefer this Grey look. Our client was looking for the deck to be treated and maintain the original brown tones prior to exposure to the sun. Part of this patio was previously treated with a topical type coating. Ipe and other extremely dense hardwoods require penetrating oil rather then a topical coating. With a fair bit of sanding this existing coating was removed and the deck was oiled and ready for years of service.
